On Physical Therapy
I know that everyone talks about going to therapy, and it has its merits, but divas... PT is where it's at.
Unless you are someone who never plans on having sex, working out, dancing, singing, using the bathroom, standing, walking, sitting, breathing… You can benefit from physical therapy, INCLUDING PELVIC FLOOR PT.
This isn’t sponcon but I bet you could get sponsored if you’re hotter and/or more important than I am.
I know a lot of my dancer divas (and performers) have been knee deep in PT for years, but I doubt they’ve looked into pelvic floor PT specifically. I bet they need it the most.
Alexander Technique is one thing. And I love it too, even though in grad school I was terrified of having emotions when someone touched me. And in grad school, I really didn’t like that there was an audience.
I have massive trust issues. I avoid discomfort. I don’t tolerate the pain and shame living inside me.
I do think about things through Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next,” for better or worse, and:
It’s taught me to trust more (not love yet, though I do think intimacy and sex, which can be part of love, will be easier)
It’s taught me patience. My goodness, both my PT regimens right now are teaching me to sit with things and build a lot more slowly. I had a major surgery 7 weeks ago, but even people struggling with topping or bottoming or any other number of issues deserve to be met with real work, not just temporary surface quick fixes.
And it has not only taught me pain. It has reshaped how I speak about and feel pain. and discomfort. I use a qualitative and durational approach rather than a quantitative one (like a 1-10 pain scale).
It’s so hard to free oneself from trauma, from shame, from all that. Pride is the perfect season. The same way I see gay people and trans people promoting other things, I’d LOVE to see you get into PT. For surgery and sex reasons, sure, but also for quality of life.
We all deserve to feel better. And we shouldn’t have to wait until there’s an injury or emergency. Prepare so you don’t have to repair.
